Practical Proverbial, from Matthew, 7 October 2025. Today's topic: Before Today Becomes Too Late
His Word, Our Journey
“You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Matthew 26:64 (NIV).
Now, Jesus answers His accusers. Recall that Jesus is standing before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council. They’re holding a sham trial, trying to trap Jesus in His words so they can use it as an excuse to “legally” murder Him. Caiaphas says to Jesus, “Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” What does Jesus do?
He answers Caiaphas, affirming Caiaphas’ request and then going further. It’s like He’s dog-piling on it. Jesus knows they are going to do whatever they can to kill Him, and that they’ll succeed. So, instead of keeping silent (remember: there were no 4th Amendment Miranda rights in Jerusalem that night), He puts it on Caiaphas and then reveals truth about what’s going to happen. Jesus turns around Caiaphas’ own words, saying “you have said so,” making Caiaphas’ sarcastic jab into his own unwitting affirmation of who Jesus is.
Then, Jesus tells Caiaphas and the others that they will see Him and the Father in all Their glory. Not only will they see Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God as He is, but they will see Him sitting next to the Father. They will see this and know He is God and who He said He was, and this knowledge, too, will be revealed to them through God’s Spirit. None of them realize all this will happen when their lives have ended and they have lost the opportunity to turn from unbelief. It will be their last happy memory.
None of them realize that Jesus is making a promise to all mankind, that all of us will see Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father, both at the end of our lives and at the end of all time. Like the Sanhedrin that Good Friday, when we see Them, it will be too late to turn from our unbelief. That means the time to do so is now, when there is still opportunity, while there is still time.
Yesterday, I told you about my friend, Pat, who went to be with Jesus a few days ago. He used his time to believe in Christ; have you? Have your family and friends? What can you do to help them? Now is the moment, if you haven’t done it already, to seek Jesus, to ask His forgiveness, and to repent, to turn from the sins that led you to Him. As much as Caiaphas, Jesus was answering us, imploring us to believe in Him today before today becomes too late.

Lord Jesus, I believe in You. Help me to run from temptation today, and the change ways that have caused me to sin.
